Biography

headshotSought after for her rare combination of exquisite voice, riveting stage presence, and natural beauty, American lyric soprano Cynthia Firing is, indeed, “the complete dramatic package.”

With “sparkle, brio and élan,” Ms. Firing has captivated critics and audiences from New York City to South America, most recently as a featured soloist with the Philharmonic Symphony of Indianapolis performing highlights from both La traviata and Rigoletto.  This past year she has also starred as Violetta in both Regina Opera’s production of La traviata and the Staten Island Philharmonic’s concert version of the Verdi masterpiece.  Other recent appearances include the role of Lucia in concert with Opera New York at Merkin Concert Hall.

An emotional and passionate performer who “exudes charisma,” Ms. Firing made her operatic debut as Giannetta in L’elisir d’amore with Hudson Valley Opera at the Bardavon Opera House. Equally gifted in tragic and comic works, her uncommon versatility and stunning, effortless coloratura have combined to earn her roles as diverse as Adina, Norina, Marie (Daughter of the Regiment), Gilda, Violetta, Lucia, Micaëla, Frasquita, Adele, Sophie (Werther), Musetta, Mimì, and Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro) with companies including the New Rochelle Opera, New York Grand Opera, Inwood Opera, Metropolitan Repertory Ballet Company, Long Island Opera, Regina Opera, and ConcertOPERA, Philadelphia.

In ConcertMs. Firing has also appeared as a soloist and featured artist in highlights from Lucia di Lammermoor, Carmen, La Sonnambula and La traviata in concert with the Greenwich Village Orchestra, Orchestra of Lima (Perú), the Bronx Symphony Orchestra, the Centre Symphony Orchestra of Manhattan, the South Shore Symphony, the Hawthorne Symphony Orchestra and The National Symphony of Perú.

In addition to touring as one of the "Four Divas" with Opera New York, Ms. Firing is half of a dynamic duo with husband and baritone, Alessandro Magno. Together they were featured at Philadelphia's Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in a program they repeated for the Liederkranz Foundation and many other venues.

Currently residing in Chicago, Cynthia Firing studied theater at Penn State University and honed her stage skills in Off-Off Broadway and Regional Houses before succumbing to the seduction of opera.  Ms. Firing is a member of the Actors' Equity Association.  She longs for the day when Violetta lives through the end of Act III.
